Nowadays, more and more people are buying mid-size sport utility vehicles (SUV) now than before, and who wouldn’t? First off, it is roomy and enough to carry up to seven people on board. More than that, most mid-size SUVs now have departed from the traditional body on frame chassis which made old trucks ride like, err, trucks. Now, the mid-size SUV have unibody platforms which are more fun to drive and comfortable too. To top all that, these trucks are quite thrifty too, making them ideal for daily use. And so with all of those benefits, are there really things that you should worry about in getting one? Apparently there is.
Good but Unsafe?
Because of the growing demands for mid-size SUVs, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have been subjecting these vehicles to different crash tests to see if these hot-selling vehicles are safe too. Apparently, it isn’t. Among all the mid-size SUVs available in the market today, only the identical, platform-sharing Chevrolet Equinox and the GMC Terrain are the only midsize SUVs to have a good rating in the IIHS’ small overlap front crash test. This kind of test has been implemented by the agency to challenge car manufacturers to come up with better all-around crash protections systems on their vehicles. The Equinox and the Terrain bested it rivals Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota 4Runner, Ford Explorer, Kia Sorento, Mazda CX-9, and the Honda Pilot. Among all its competitors, only Toyota’s Highlander came close to the two midsize offerings from GMC. Because of this, the three vehicles earned the IIHS’ “Top Safety Pick+” rating, the highest that the agency is giving.
A Safer Car’s Benefits When Accidents Happen
This is a good thing for car buyers as they now have an idea of which midsize SUV is worth keeping. Since nobody can really tell when crashes are going to happen, you need to prepare for the worst possible thing that could happen on the road. Knowing that you are in a very safe vehicle where there are less chances of getting injured, disabled, or dead because of the accidents that may happen. This way, you also won’t be having much problem filing personal injury claims as the compensation you need for your would-be-injuries won’t be as much as when you’re driving an unsafe vehicle. If that would ever happen, (knock on wood) you can always solicit a car accident claim attorney’s help in filing the said claims.
