The western part of the United States and the whole North and South American continents are a part of the famous “Pacific Ring of Fire” which is known for active volcanoes and fault lines, recipes for earthquakes. Not too long ago, various places in the Pacific Ring of Fire was also struck by major quakes. In the last decade Chile, Costa Rica, Japan, the Philippines, New Zealand, and other countries in the Pacific region have experienced major quakes because of tectonic plate movements and volcanic eruptions.
While earthquakes are a natural disaster, the loss of lives after quakes strike can also be attributed to the negligence of people.
